Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Saturday said all political parties, including BNP, which opposed the construction of Padma Bridge, will be invited to the inaugural ceremony of the bridge.
"During the inaugural ceremony of Padma Bridge, we will not consider who favoured or opposed the construction of the bridge. We will even invite those who opposed it politically. We will send (invitation) letters to them," he said.
Quader, also the general secretary of Awami League, said this while replying to a question from journalists after attending a certificate distribution ceremony at Brac Centre in the capital’s Mohakhali area, reports BSS.
Brac organized the function after the conclusion of a training program for women vehicle drivers.
Responding to a question on whether BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia would get the invitation, Quader said, as the chief of BNP, she is supposed to be invited since the party leaders will be invited along with other opposition leaders.
"She (Khaleda) may also be invited if the legal procedure permits since she is a convict," the AL leader added.
Addressing the BNP secretary general, Obaidul Quader said: "If you (Fakhrul) continue like this, you will see the consequences. You will see in reality who will have the worst outcome.
“BNP is a big party. We want them to come to the polls. If you want a change of power, you have to take part in the election.”
“If you (BNP) dream that murder, terrorism and threatning to murder Sheikh Hasina will take you to power, then this (dream) will turn into a nightmare,” he observed.
The minister mentioned that foreigners and the country director of the World Bank will also be invited to the ceremony.
