The 22nd National Council of Awami League is going to take place in December this year as the running committee’s tenure is going to expired then.
The decision was taken at the party’s Central Working Committee (ALCWC) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday.
Two joint general secretaries of Awami League confirmed the information to Dhaka Tribune after the meeting.
Focus BanglaSources said, before the national council of Awami League, its associated bodies and wings like Bangladesh Chattra League, Jubo Mohila League’s central council will be also held.
The meeting has discussed in detail about the next national parliament election, as Awami League wants a participatory national parliament election which is due on December 2023.
“Awami League wants every political party to carry out meeting and rally in a peaceful manner centring the next election. The ruling party will create an environment so that every party can contest the next election in a competitive way,” party insiders said.
The previous national council of the Awami League was held at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka in December 2019 to elect its central leadership.
