Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury on Sunday said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina should release BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and greet her on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
In a media statement, valiant freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah said: “I hope Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will go to former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s residence on Eid day to exchange greetings.”
He said that such a gesture from the premier would be remembered by all for a long time.
He also wished for Sheikh Hasina’s long life and well-being.
Three-time former premier and BNP chief Khaleda Zia is currently staying at her Gulshan residence after the government extended the suspension of her jail sentence in March this year, allowing her to stay out of prison for another six months.
Khaleda was imprisoned after she was convicted in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission in 2018. In March 2020, she was released under the conditions that the 76-year-old would not leave the country and receive treatment at her home in Dhaka.
She was admitted to hospital several times and she also contracted Covid-19.

On November 14 last year, Dr Zafrullah urged the prime minister to take steps for ensuring bail for ailing Khaleda Zia.
The government, however, has maintained that there was no scope in the law to allow her to leave the country for advanced treatment as requested by her family members and party leaders.
On February 1, 2022, Khaleda Zia returned to her Gulshan residence after spending 49 days at Evercare Hospital in the capital.
The doctors said that the BNP chief’s treatment would continue at home under the constant supervision of the medical board formed at Evercare.
The medical board said Khaleda Zia was out of danger, but not cured.
The BNP chief's physicians said that she had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, ophthalmological and dental complications.
