Update : 17 May 2013, 04:13 PM

A Dhaka court Friday rejected the bail and remand plea of BNP Joint Secretary General Salauddin Ahamed and ordered him sent to jail under the Explosives Substance Act and in a case of assaulting police officers in the Tejgaon area during the February 12 hartal.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sabrina Ali passed the order after defence lawyer Sanaullah Miah filed a bail and remand plea for the former state minister.

Bachchu Miah, sub-inspector at the Tejgaon police station and the investigating officer in the case, asked for a five-day police remand.

On February 13, the Tejgaon police filed a case against 15 named and unnamed accused under the Explosive Substances Act and for assault on police officers.

Plainclothes police detained Salauddin as he came out of jail on bail that he secured from the High Court Division in the cases filed against him at Paltan police station in connection with violence in the city on April 1.

Salauddin was rearrested at the Dhaka Central Jail gate after he was released on bail in various cases on May 16.

On April 8, DB police arrested Salahuddin in the city’s Gulshan area.
