The government will not send a letter to main opposition BNP inviting them for talks to hammer out a solution over polls-time arrangement, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made it clear to her colleagues in the 14-party alliance last night.
Hasina, also ruling Awami League chief, discussed latest political situation with her political allies at her official residence Ganabhaban for more than two hours.
Sources said Hasina told the 14-party leaders that the government had made any commitment to send BNP a formal latter.
"If the BNP has any proposals about interim government, they can place it in the parliament," Hasina was quoted by a left leader who attended the meeting.
Also some of the 14-party leaders requested Hasina not to send a letter, saying the opposition leader Khaleda Zia has spoilt the environment of holding talks by giving ultimatum.
Hasina sat with her 14-party alliance leaders for the first time in six months. The last time she had a meeting with them was in November when they decided to resist the “conspiracy” by BNP and Jamaat-Shibir to foil the ongoing war crimes trial.
Last night, the 14-party reached a consensus to hold the next elections under an interim government. They also said that there was “no scope” of returning to caretaker system comprising unelected people.
However, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon urged the AL leadership to finalise the structure of the interim government and strongly suggested not sending a letter to the BNP.
At the meeting the 14-party leaders also decided to form a "resistance committee" in every thana across the country with pro-liberation forces to resist “anarchy” by BNP and Jamaat.
Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting that was also participated by 14-party leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Matia Chowdhury, Mohammad Nasim, Nuh-ul-Alam Lenin, Rashed Khan Menon, Hasanul Haque Inu, Dilip Barua, Fazley Hossain Badsha, Mainuddin Khan Badol, Shirin Akter, Nurur Rahman Selim, Eanmul Haque, Asit Baron Roy, Jakir Hossain, Haji Abdus Samad, among others.
