Charge framing against 41 opposition men on June 3

Update : 14 May 2013, 03:45 AM

A Dhaka court Monday set June 3 for charge framing against 41 leaders and activists of 18-party alliances in a case filed under Speedy Trial Act with Paltan police station on March 7.

The case against the accused relates to torching vehicles and creating panic among people through blasts and vandalism at a demonstration in front of BNP Nayapaltan office on March 6.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan fixed the date for framing charges following a petition for extension by Defence Counsel Sanaullah Miah.

During the hearing on Monday, advocate Sanaullah Miah explained why the accused BNP leaders – Moudud Ahmed, Mirza Abbas and Moazzem Hossain Alal were not present at the court.

BNP leaders Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Barkatullah Bulu, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Ruhul Amin were, however, present during the hearing.

The same court also issued arrest warrant against the absconding 34 accused in the case including Sultan Salauddin Tuku and Saiful Alam Nirob.

A list of the absconding accused was published in the daily newspaper, Bhorer Kagoj, and submitted before the court.
