The Election Commission will publish the finalised delimitation of redrawn parliamentary constituencies next month.

Election Commissioner Md Shah Newaz on Sunday said: “We have completed the hearing on objections to and demands regardingthe proposed demarcation of the constituenciesdivision-wise. We will publish the gazette of the delimitation of parliamentary seats in June.”

In line with its proposal of February 6, the commission brought changes to the boundaries of 88 constituencies in 28 districts. It received 894 letters of objections and suggestions before the stipulated deadline of March 10. The EC started the hearing at the EC Secretariat on April 23.

Participating in the hearing, MPs from Dhaka yesterday demanded that the EC restore the previous delimitation of constituencies.

Jatiya Party Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawladar on behalf of party chief HM Ershad, who was elected from Dhaka-17, demanded restoration of the constituencies as prepared in 2008.

Post and Telecommunication Minister Sahara Khatun, an MP of Dhaka-18, and lawmakers Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal of Dhaka-11 and Kamal Ahmed Majumder of Dhaka-15 also made the same demand.

According to the constitution, the next general election must be held between October 25 this year and January 24, 2014. The first session of the ninth parliament was held on January 25, 2009.
