The daylong hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway Sunday protesting the International Crimes Tribunal’s death verdict of its assistant secretary general Mohammad Kamaruzzaman.
The hartal supporters torched a vehicle in Hazaribagh area at 7am. Law enforcers held two hartal supporters in this connection.
Shibir activists brought out a procession in Malibagh-Mouchak area at 9am. They also exploded a cocktail there.
Another procession was brought out in Sabujbagh area at 9:15am, where two cocktails were blasted.
A statement issued by the party on Thursday announced the hartal. The statement said the ruling government had orchestrated a “politically-motivated” trial to reach a verdict “ignoring all international laws and principles.”
On the day, the tribunal handed capital punishment to Jamaat leader Mohammad Kamaruzzaman for committing crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War.
