Hefazat leader Babunagari on nine-day remand

Update : 07 May 2013, 11:29 AM

A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed Hefazat-e-Islam’s Secretary General Junaid Babunagari on a nine-day remand on charges of “killing police and exploding crude bombs” in the capital.

Metropolitan magistrate Tareq Moinul Islam Bhuiyan passed the order responding to a police plea for a 10-day remand against the Hefazat leader.

Earlier, Motijheel police produced Babunagari before the court around 3:45pm when Sheikh Mofizur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Motijheel police, sought a 10-day remand against the accused.

After an hour long hearing, the judge gave the order rejecting defense lawyer’s appeal for bail for his client Babunagari.

On Monday, the law enforcers arrested Babunagari from Old Dhaka’s Dhakeshwari Temple area in connection with the sporadic violence that rocked the capital and Narayanganj on Sunday and Monday leaving over a dozen people dead.
