The daylong hartal, enforced by Jamaat-e-Islami protesting the arrest of its some leaders, is underway in all eight districts of Rajshahi division on Tuesday.
The shutdown is also meant for pushing the demand for tracing a Jamaat leader and a Shibir leader allegedly picked up by law enforcers, reports UNB.
The hartal call was given in a press release emailed to local journalists by Rajshahi division Jamaat team member Prof Rafiqul Islam on Sunday night.
The eight districts are Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, Bogra, Natore, Naogaon and Joypurhat.
The Islamist party also threatened to enforce a nonstop hartal in the division if their arrested Jamaat leaders are not released and the missing ones not traced immediately.
Law enforces arrested Chapainawabganj district Jamaat ameer Nazrul Islam on May 3 and Bogra district unit Jamaat ameer Mohammad Sahabuddin on May 5.
On April 012, a team of ‘Detective Branch of police’ picked up Joypurhat district Jamaat-e-Islami general secretary Nazrul Islam from his Saheb Para residence in the town.
On the other hand, Anwarul Islam Masum, Rajshahi city unit office secretary of Shibir, remained untraced since a team of ‘Rab-5’ picked him up in the early hours of April 4.
