Story in pictures: Hefazat-e-Islam's Dhaka blockade

Update : 05 May 2013, 12:57 PM

With a written permission from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Hefazat activists gathered at the outskirts of Dhaka on Sunday. The pre-arranged “Dhaka Siege” programme is still going strong. The programme has taken a more serious turn after a peaceful start- at least one person has been shot dead and 50 are reported to be injured. Police fired live rounds in front of Bangabandhu Avenue in an attempt to disperse Hefazat members. The injured have been taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Awami League activists wielding sticks were seen accompanying police while BNP and Jamaat supporters allegedly helped the Hefazat men. Clashes, chases and counter-chases between Hefazat-e-Islam and Jamaat-Shibir activists and the security personnel have been reported at different points of the city.
