Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has given “conditional permission” to the BNP-led 18-party Alliance to hold a rally today at Shapla Chattar of Motijheel.
“The 18-party Alliance has been allowed to hold a peaceful rally on Saturday from 2pm to 5.30pm at Shapla Chattar area since they did not get permission for the Paltan intersection venue,” Nazmul Hossain, deputy commissioner of Motijheel division told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.
DC Nazmul Hossain said that police had limited their venue from Shapla Chattar to Fakirerpool via Arambagh, an almost half-a-kilometre stretch of road.
“We have imposed 12 conditions for holding the rally,” he said.
Some of the major conditions are: no anarchic activity that will damage public lives or property, refraining from all kinds of violation of law and order, no use of sound boxes or mikes outside Shapla Chattar to Arambagh area, completing the rally within the scheduled time, not gathering in the area before or after the scheduled time, appointing a sufficient number of volunteers to maintain law and order and not obstructing public movement outside the rally area. Police also reserved the right to take any kind of decision about the rally without prior notice.
