Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, Sylhet city corporations’ polls June 15

The elections to the Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet and Barisal city corporations will be held on June 15.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed announced the election at a press conference at the Election Commission Secretariat Monday morning.

As per the poll schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers is May 12.

The Election Commission will scrutinise the nomination papers on May 15 and 16.

The timeline for withdrawing one’s candidacy has been fixed for May 26.

The election commission will experimentally use EVM, electronic voting machine, in four wards in the four city corporation's election, one in each.

The last elections to Rajshahi, Khulna, Sylhet and Barisal city corporations were held on August 4, 2008.

As per city corporation laws, the five-year tenure for a city corporation starts from the first meeting of the mayor and councilors and the elections must be held within 180 days after which the tenure expires.
