Nasim lambasts home minister

Update : 27 Apr 2013, 04:26 AM

Former home minister Mohammad Nasim criticised incumbent Home Minister MK Alamgir yesterday for his comment about the Savar building collapse, adding that this comment could only be considered “humorous.”

Nasim, also the ruling Awami League presidium member, made this statement at a discussion held at the Public Library Auditorium.

Bangamata Parishad organised the discussion, which was chaired by Akram Hossain, the organisation’s advisor.

He urged the minister to unearth the truth behind the incident, leaving humorous statements aside, and requested the responsible individuals of the government to end the blame game.

Earlier on Wednesday and Thursday, MK Alamgir had made the claim that a large number of picketers had attacked Rana Plaza during the opposition-called hartal, resulting in the collapse of the eight-storey building.

Nasim alleged that these individuals have now fallen into an awkward situation, following their irresponsible comments about the incident.

“The Savar tragedy is not an accident; rather, it is murder,” he said, adding that none involved with this disaster would be spared.

He was also critical of local Upazila Nirbahi Officer Kabir Hossain Bhuiyan, and stated: “The UNO officer who gave the clearance to use the building, despite the risks involved, should be sacked immediately.”
