Thirteen days after the incident in Fatickchhari, a delegation from the Awami League-led 14-party alliance will visit the area today.
Dilip Barua, general secretary of Bangladesher Samyabadi Dal (ML), and Mohammad Nasim, AL presidium member will lead the delegation.
The decision to visit Fatickchhari was made at a meeting of the 14-party alliance, held at AL president Sheikh Hasina’s office in Dhanmondi yesterday.
Nasim, the former Home Minister, briefed journalists about the meeting’s outcome afterwards. He said other than the programme to visit Fatickchhari, the 14-party alliance will hold public rallies at different places in the capital on May 2, 3 and 4, in favour of swift trials of war criminals, and against recent violence across the country unleashed by BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Activists of Jamaat, Islami Chhatra Shibir (its student’s wing), and Hefazat-e-Islam attacked an anti-hartal procession of AL supporters in Chittagong’s Fatikchhari upazila. The incident left three people dead and hundreds of vehicles were burned.
Suranjit Sengupta, senior AL leader party member, presided at the meeting, which was attended by Barua and Nasim, along with members of the alliance, among others Sharif Nurul Ambia, Anisur Rahman Mallick, Nurur Rahman Selim, Asit Baran Roy, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Mrinal Kanti Das, were present.
