Naogaon-5 by-polls: Abdul Malek gets AL nomination

Naogaon district Awami League general secretary and chairman of the Sadar upazila parishad, Abdul Malek, got the party ticket for the Naogaon-5 by-election.

A meeting of Awami League parliamentary board (ALPB) led by party president Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban reached the decision yesterday.

After the meeting, AL general secretary and LGRD minister Syed Ashraful Islam announced the selection.

The Naogaon-5 parliamentary constituency became vacant after its lawmaker and former AL general secretary Abdul Jalil died on March 6.

The Election Commission scheduled the by-elections for May 25.

The meeting started at 8:20pm and was participated by party leaders Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury, Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Suranjit Sengupta, Obaidul Quader, Kazi Zafarullah and Syed Ashraful Islam.

Earlier on Friday, the board interviewed 14 aspirants including Rehana Jalil, widow of Abdul Jalil.
