Local unit of main opposition BNP has withdrawn today’s dawn-to-dusk shutdown in the Matlab upazila in Chandpur district due to the election of a local school managing committee.
President of Matlab Upazila unit of BNP Billal Hossain Mridha said they had decided to take the hartal back to allow the managing committee election of the Matlabganj JB Pilot High School.
Parents, businessmen and locals earlier requested us to withdraw the hartal, he added.
Billal however said that BNP would stage a comprehensive hartal in the upazila on Wednesday.
Officer-in-charge of the Matlab South Police Station Md Jahangir said that BNP would not stage any pro-hartal programme in the town today.
