Leftist parties have demonstrated demanding modernization of state-owned jute mills and payment of workers’ arrears in Jessore

They formed a human chain and brought out a short rally on Mujib Road of Jessore city on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking at the rally, Iqbal Kabir Zahid, general secretary of the Workers Party of Bangladesh (Marxist), said once farmers used to be benefited by cultivating jute. However, today jute and jute industry are facing destruction due to the decision of the government.

In order to restore the jute industry to its previous state, it is necessary to fix the minimum price of jute at Tk3,000, cancel the decision to nationalize the jute industry, modernize the state-owned jute mills and pay arrears of workers, he added.

In this situation, the leaders called upon the government to take immediate effective measures considering the problems of farmers and agriculture as national problems.

Taslimur Rahman, coordinator of the United Communist League of Bangladesh, Advocate Abul Hossain, president of Communist Party of Bangladesh, and leaders of Socialist Party of Bangladesh (BASOD) also spoke at the rally.
