Top leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will meet their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia on Monday evening to exchange greetings on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, among the biggest of religious festivals for Muslims.
"Only Standing Committee members of the party will meet Khaleda Zia at her residence, 'Feroza,' in Gulshan around 7pm," said Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, one of the members of the Standing Committee.
"And, we will do that following health guidelines [amid the coronavirus pandemic]," he added.
On March 25, the BNP chief was released from the prison cell of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) for six months after an executive order was issued in consideration of her age and on humanitarian grounds.
The government issued the order for her release on two conditions: she must receive treatment staying at her Gulshan residence and she cannot leave the country.
Khaleda was sent to the old Dhaka Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in the capital when she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment by a special court in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. She was also convicted in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case on October 29, 2018.
Before her release, she was receiving treatment at BSMMU hospital since April 1, 2019.
