To protect the party leaders and workers from the Covid-19 infection, Awami League President’s Dhanmondi party office has installed disinfection tunnels in front of the main entrance.

Party sources on Thursday said Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed her office colleague to take this initiative so that some senior leaders can go to party office without any fear during the time of coronavirus.

Prime minister’s special assistant and Awami League Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told Dhaka Tribune that they have installed two disinfection tunnels for two buildings on Thursday. “Two other tunnels would be installed soon.”

Responding to a question, Biplab said: “Awami League is the biggest political party of the country. A lot of senior leaders visit the party office almost daily. So our party president instructed us to make the office infection free.”

He said in the beginning they had installed 10 basins to arrange the hand washing facilities for all.

“Awami League party office is in full operation from the day one of Covid-19 outbreak. It has not been closed for a single day yet,” Biplab added.

Awami League office sources said Sheikh Hasina is monitoring the party office via video conference regularly during the time of coronavirus. The party’s central and city unit leaders are coming to the party office everyday to look after relief works across the country.
