The dawn to dusk hartal, called by BNP alleging widespread irregularities in the Dhaka city polls, is underway in Dhaka city.
BNP supporters enforced the hartal around 6am on Sunday.
However, fewer vehicles were plying on the roads compared to regular days.
Inter district buses were seen departing from Technical and Gabtoli Bus terminals as per schedule, but had less passengers.
No incident of violence was seen, while Dhaka Tribune’s correspondent visited Shewrapara, Kazipara, Darussalam, Agargaon, Purobi, Mirpur circle 1, 2, 10 and 12.
Jahangir Alam, a bus driver of Shikbor Poribahan said: "There is no traffic jam. We are getting more passenger as some buses are not running on the road due to the hartal.”
Tea vender Md Rabiul, who puts up his stall at technical intersection, told Dhaka Tribune: "There is no violence. The day is like any other days, but traffic movement has been cut to half."
Anwar Hossain, of Sirajganj bound Shahjadpur travels, said: "Road is clear. There is no trouble. Our buses are departing according to the schedule, but number of passenger is less.”
"Generally we start journey when the bus is full, but today [Sunday], every bus is departing with five to seven passenger only, which is causing us a loss," he added.
Earlier on Saturday, BNP called the hartal, rejecting the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls.
Meanwhile, Awami League vowed to resist the hartal by deploying its leaders and activists at major locations on Dhaka streets.
The Awami League’s Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and Atiqul Islam have clinched sweeping victories over the BNP’s Ishraque Hossain and Tabith Awal in the second election in the history of the administratively divided city of Dhaka.
