Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon has been made a member of the Awami League's Central Working Committee.
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inducted him into the panel using the powers vested upon her in the party’s national council last month, a statement of the party's Deputy Office Secretary Sayem Khan said on Sunday.
In accordance with Section 26(a) of Awami League Constitution, the party president appointed him.
The posts fell vacant following the Awami League National Council that took place in December last year.
Sayeed who was a member of Dhaka city South unit Awami League had sought the party nomination for re-election, but the ruling Awami League chose Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh in his place.
