BNP-backed councillor candidate arrested in Dhaka

Tajuddin Ahmed Taju is running for councillor’s office in DSCC Ward 32

Police have arrested a BNP-backed councillor candidate of the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) election.

Tajuddin Ahmed Taju, who is running for the office in Ward 32, was apprehended in the Motijheel-Tikatuli intersection area around 4pm on Thursday. 

Taju, also the president of BNP Bangshal unit, was arrested in connection with sabotage and political cases filed against him, Bangshal police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shahin Fakir said.

"We arrested him as warrants were issued for his arrest in some of the cases filed against him. After the primary interrogation, he will be produced before a court," the OC added. 

The elections to DSCC and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) are scheduled for January 30.
