AL root level leaders express faith in new committee

They also expressed hope of running Awami League smoothly as well as the country

The two-day long 21st National Council of Bangladesh Awami League began on Friday.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the longest-serving president in the history of the party, inaugurated the council.

Around 7,500 councillors, 15,000 delegates, and 5,000 special guests joined the opening ceremony, according to party insiders. 

Several thousands of party followers and activists from all over the country congregated near the venue of the triennial mega event.

After the announcement of a new council committee, party men, especially those who belong to the grass root level politics, have expressed their joy in having Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader as party president and general secretary, respectively.

The grass root level Awami League leaders expressed their feelings to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday.

At that time, they also expressed hope that Awami League will be run smoothly and so will be the country.

Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, former general secretary Manikganj district unit Awami League, also the mayor of Manikganj Sadar municipality, said: “The grass root leaders have kept faith on the outgoing top leadership and thus reelected them again.”

Sharif Faruque Ahmed, joint general secretary of Gopalganj Sadar Awami League, also a councilor of the council, said: “Those of us who are doing politics at the grass root level, hope that the country will remain stable like previous years as we reelected the previous leadership.”

He added: “I think the county will move forward with more development and keep the ruling power in Awami League’s hand.”

Rafiqul Islam Mazumder, former treasurer of Swechasebak League, Dhaka Metropolitan South unit, said: “We are with the party because of the love we have for Awami League. Hope comes from this unconditional love. All misdeeds will be eradicated from the country.”

“The Awami League led government wants to do more good for the country, though, there are challenges like the onion price hike or so-called Padma Bridge scam. Still this committee will smoothen the works of the government,” he said.

Moyna Bibi, general secretary of Talom union of Tarash Upazila under Sirajganj district, also expressed her satisfaction and enthusiasm about the women empowerment as well as leadership.”

Around 7,500 councilors of Bangladesh Awami League named Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for the ninth time as president and Obaidul Quader as general secretary for the second tenure on Saturday.
