Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader visited former president HM Ershad at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) on Monday morning.
Obaidul, also the road, transport and bridges minister, paid the courtesy call to the former military dictator who was admitted to the CMH Wednesday morning. He has been suffering from multiple ailments for the last nine months and received treatment from abroad.
Later, around 5:30pm, Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque also visited ailing HM Ershad.
After his half an hour stay at the CMH, the minister around 6:10pm briefed the journalists waiting at the hospital's gate and said: "Ershad's condition is still critical. However, he is doing better than before but things are still quite serious as he is suffering from old-age complications.
"He is getting all the necessary treatment available at our disposal. I urge everyone to pray for him."
Senior political leaders including former commerce minister, sitting MP from Bhola 1 constituency, and Awami League Advisory Council Member Tofail Ahmed, JaPa Senior Joint Secretary General MP Liaqat Hossain Khoka, and JaPa Presidium Member MP Shamim Hyder Patwari were present at the CMH on Monday to see Ershad.
Ershad’s Personal Secretary Abdur Rahim confirmed the report.

At Ershad’s bedside was Jatiya Party acting chairman GM Quader and General Secretary Moshiur Rahman Ranga among various top leaders.
GM Quader said that Ershad’s condition was showing signs of improvement. The acting chairman is set to brief the media at the party chairman’s Banani office at 12:30 noon on Monday.
Ershad is still being given oxygen support due to his respiratory conditions. He has severe infections in his lungs and kidneys.
