Governing Awami League has decided to launch its member collection campaign at district, and upazila levels on July 1.
“During the primary member collection campaign, Awami League will assign priority to the new members’ political affiliation rather than family background,” said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader at a press conference held at the Awami League president’s Dhanmondi office on Friday.
Awami League Organizing Secretary AKM Enamul Hoque Shameem, Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan Golap, Relief and Social Welfare Secretary Sujit Roy Nandi, Science and Technology Affairs Secretary Engineer Abdus Sabur, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Advocate Afzal Hossain, Central Working Committee members Anwar Hossain, and Marufa Akhter Popi were present at the event.
Quader, also the Road Transport and Bridges minister, said all arrangements have been taken to hold the party’s national council on schedule.
According to the party’s constitution, the Awami League general secretary said, there is no alternative to holding the party’s council within the stipulated time; hence, there is no scope to defer it.
Commenting over the Barguna murder, Quader said three of the accused have already been detained, and a massive man-hunt operation is under way to capture the killers.
“None will be shown an iota of leniency over the brutal murder. Steps have been taken to stop the suspected criminals from fleeing the country,” he said.
