Despite all necessary preparations having been completed, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Sunday, according to BSMMU Director Brig General Abdullah Al-Harun.
"Earlier, the jail authorities had told us that Khaleda Zia would be brought here [to BSMMU] and we had prepared cabins so that she may be admitted. However, we were later informed that she would not be brought here today [on Sunday]," the BSMMU director said during a press briefing at the hospital premises around 1pm on Sunday.
Khaleda Zia was set to be taken to the hospital for better treatment on the day, as per a court order.
On Monday, March 4, a high-profile BNP delegation led by the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir met with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, to discuss the condition of Khaleda Zia’s health and her treatment.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia has been in jail since a special court convicted her in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last year.
