Dr Devi Shetty arrives at BSMMU to assess Quader's health

On Sunday monring Quader was diagnosed with three blockages in his coronary artery

Renowned Indian cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty has arrived at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) to assess the condition of ailing minister Obaidul Quader.

Confirming the matter to the Dhaka Tribune, Prashanto Kumar Majumder, public relations officer (PRO) of BSMMU, said: “Upon arriving at Dhaka airport, Devi Shetty came directly to BSMMU.”

He arrived at 1:31pm at BSMMU and immediately proceeded to assess the condition of Quader, who is still on life support. 

Once Dr Shetty examines Quader, a press conference will be held. 

Earlier in the morning, Awami League Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif had said that cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty was due in Dhaka to visit Quader.

The Awami League leader stated this to reporters after visiting Quader at BSMMU around 11 am.

Hanif also said: "Quader's condition is gradually improving. Now, the condition is somewhat better. I talked to doctors. They are hopeful about his recovery."

The medical board will decide whether the minister will be taken to Singapore. BSMMU Vice Chancellor Professor Kanak Kanti Barua will brief reporters over the decision at 1pm, he said.

Quader was admitted to the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital on Sunday morning for breathing complications.

Later, doctors found three blockages in his coronary artery following an angiogram.
