Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said BNP's efforts to make the December 30 election questionable by sending letters to different countries have failed.
"BNP alone is trying to make the election questionable. They've written letters to different countries to brand the election as illegal and controversial. But, such evil efforts have gone in vain," Road Transport and Bridges minister said, reports UNB.
The ruling party leader further said: "BNP has completely failed their movement. Now there's no atmosphere in the country to wage a movement. People also won't respond to BNP's call for taking to the streets."
He was speaking to reporters after visiting construction work on the second Kanchpur Bridge.
Quader also said BNP has lost the confidence of foreign friends and the country's people by conspiring against the country.
He criticized BNP for their decision to boycott the upcoming upazila polls, saying a political party loses their existence if they do not participate in elections.
The Awami League general secretary hoped that their party will not face any trouble with rebel candidates in the upazila polls like the national election.
The minister said the construction of the second Kanchpur Bridge is near completion and the prime minister will inaugurate it next month.
He said around 85% of the construction of two other new bridges --Meghna and Meghna-Gumti – is done and will be opened by June /July next, easing the commute on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
