Awami League has announced a grand rally for January 19 to celebrate its victory in the 11th general election, held on December 30, 2018.
Awami League Office Secretary Dr Abdus Sobhan made the announcement in a press release issued on Thursday.
He said: “This will be the biggest rally in the history of Bangladesh after 1975.”
The rally will be held at 2:30pm at Dhaka’s Suhrawardy Udyan.
The press release mentioned that Awami League President and Prime Minister, Sheikh Hasina, will attend the rally as chief guest.
The Awami League-led Grand Alliance secured 288 seats out of a total of 298 seats in the December 30, 2018 elections.
Election in Gaibandha 3 constituency was postponed as one of the candidates passed away before the election, while the Brahmanbaria 2 election was postponed due to violence on election day.
Earlier, after securing the win,the Awami League high command instructed leaders and activists not to stage any victory rallies, saying it would celebrate the election win later.
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader called upon all leaders and activists of the party to attend the rally in a bid to make it successful.
To make the event successful, the party central committee will hold a meeting with top leaders of its affiliated organizations on Saturday morning.
The meeting will be held at Awami League’s central office on Bangabandhu Avenue.
