BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday demanded that their party Chairperson Khaleda Zia be moved back to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) again as she still is seriously ill.
He made the demand after a meeting with Khaleda at Nazimuddin Road Old Central Jail, reports UNB.
"Madam (Khaleda) is very sick and she is not receiving the proper treatment. The authorities ignored the doctors' advice to keep her at Post Graduate (PG) Hospital (BSMMU). She was suddenly moved back to jail which was inhuman," Fakhrul said.
He further said: "We strongly demand the authorities to ensure her better treatment again at the PG Hospital immediately."
The BNP leader also demanded her release from jail.
Earlier, Fakhrul along with BNP Standing Committee members Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Jamiruddin Sircar and Mirza Abbas visited Khaleda at old Dhaka Central Jail around 2:40pm.
On February 8, Special Judge 5 Dr Akhtaruzzaman sentenced the former prime minister to five years in prison for embezzling funds donated to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
The former prime minister was taken to the old Dhaka Central Jail minutes after the verdict had been delivered.
On October 6, she was admitted to the BSMMU after prison authorities shifted her there from jail for better treatment, in response to a court order.
She was moved back to the jail on November 8, after a month of treatment at the hospital.
