Ruling party Awami League has prepared to start selling nomination papers from Friday; a day after the Election Commission (EC) is due to announce the election schedule.
The Election Commission has set Thursday to announce the schedule for the 11th general election, which is scheduled to be held in December.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune the party has decided to start selling nomination papers the day after the election schedule is announced.
"As the Election Commission has set November 8 to announce the election schedule, we have planned to start selling nomination papers on November 9," said Abdur Rahman.
Awami League Office Secretary Abdus Sobhan Golap said that this year, Awami League has increased the price of nomination papers from Tk25,000 to Tk30,000.
“Aspirants can collect nomination papers from November 9 morning and distribution and submission process will be continued until further notice,” said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.
Quader was speaking to reporters outside Ganabhaban before participating in a dialogue with a coalition of Islamist parties.
Aspirants can collect nomination papers from Awami League’s president’s political office at Dhanmondi, said a press release.
