The Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) has given conditional permission to the newly formed political platform Jatiya Oikya Front for holding a rally in Chittagong on Saturday.

Jatiya Oikya Front will have to wrap up the rally by 5pm.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune on Friday, Abu Sufian, vice-president of BNP's Chittagong city unit, confirmed that they had received permission from police to hold the rally on BNP's Nasiman Bhaban office premises at Kazir Dewri area of the city.

"The rally will begin at 2pm. We are optimistic that people from all corners of society will participate in the rally. Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain will attend the program as the chief guest, while BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir will address at the rally as the key speaker," Sufian said.

Earlier, the platform had sought permission from police for holding the rally at Laldighi Maidan in Chittagong.

The Jatiya Oikya Front is an alliance comprised of the BNP, Dr Kamal Hossain-led Jatiya Oikya Prokriya, ASM Abdur Rab's Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, and Mahmudur Rahman Manna's Nagorik Oikya.

The Oikya Front was formed on October 13 this year, with demands of a national election under a neutral government after dissolution of parliament, and release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
