Update : 24 Oct 2018, 01:54 PM

A delegation of Oikya Front leaders, led by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, has visited and prayed at the shrines of Hazrat Shah Jalal and Hazrat Shah Paran in Sylhet.

The delegation headed straight to the shrine of Hazrat Shah Jalal after arriving in Sylhet, by plane, around 6am, and offered special prayers. From there, they visited the shrine of Hazrat Shah Paran.

Mirza Fakhrul was accompanied by Standing Committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, and Dr Abdul Moin Khan; as well as JSD President ASM Abdur Rab, its General Secretary Abdul Malek Ratan, and Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna.

Previously, on Tuesday night, the above-mentioned shrines were visited by one of the founding members of Oikya Front and Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain, General Secretary Mostafa Mohsin, and former DUCSU VP Sultan Mohammad Mansur.

Speaking to the Dhaka Tribune, Sylhet BNP Office Secretary Reazul Karim said: “The Oikya Front leaders will rest at their hotel after visiting those shrines. They are scheduled to participate in a rally at the registrar field around 2pm.”

Meanwhile, Mirza Fakhrul said: “We want to hold a peaceful rally in Sylhet. However, I condemn that our leaders and activists are being arrested all over the country.”

The mass rally scheduled in Sylhet, on Wednesday, will be the first major public event of Oikya Front since its inception.

Senior BNP leader and Sylhet City Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury will preside over the rally, while Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain will be present as the chief guest.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul will address the rally as the chief speaker. Senior leaders of the Oikya Front will also attend the event.
