Moudud: BNP getting ready for street agitations

BNP standing committee member Moudud said Khaleda should have been released within seven days of her jailing through a legal battle

Senior BNP leader Moudud Ahmed said his party is preparing to come up with street programs to push for Khaleda Zia's release and holding a “credible election.”

"We need to forget about having Khaleda Zia released from jail through legal process ... street movement is now the only way," he said on Wednesday at a human chain program, reports UNB.

Moudud said: "We are making  preparations and necessary steps to announce fresh action programs.”

He said the programs would include the BNP’s politics in the coming days, the restoration of voting rights, and democracy and independence of the judiciary.

He urged everyone to unite to make the BNP’s movement a success.

Diploma Engineers Association, a pro-BNP engineers' platform, formed the human chain in front of the National Press Club, demanding Khaleda's release and ensuring proper treatment.

BNP standing committee member Moudud said Khaleda should have been released within seven days of her jailing through a legal battle. "But, we couldn't free her over the last seven months as the lower court is now under the control of the government," he claimed.

He said their lawyers worked hard and used all the legal options to ensure the BNP chief's release. "Even after that, we couldn't be successful due to the government's influence on the lower court," he alleged.

Moudud said forging the national unity was the only option for the people. “The freedom of the country's 160 million people now depends on a successful movement through the national unity," he added.

The BNP leader said they would involve the people from all walks of life with their movement to force the government to “restore democracy and voting rights through holding an acceptable election.”
