The BNP mayoral candidate for Rajshahi City Corporation, Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul, has filed a case seeking to scrap the result of the latest city polls.
A lawyer, on behalf of Bulbul, filed the case with the election tribunal on Thursday.
In the case he set out a number of charges including that supporters of the ruling Awami League-backed candidate had occupied the polling centres and exhausted the ballot papers before voting had ended.
The judge took the case in cognizance after a hearing, said advocate Parvez Toufique Jahedi, one of Bulbul’s five lawyers, who was present at the hearing.
In the July 30 city polls, Awami League mayoral candidate AHM Khairuzzaman Liton won the polls— he bagged 165,096 votes while his rival Mosaddek got 77,700 votes.
The elected mayor was sworn into office on Wednesday.
