The BNP mayoral candidate of the Sylhet City Corporation polls has protested the arrest of 3 activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the party.
Ariful Haque Chowdhury along with local party leaders staged a sit-in in front of the deputy commissioner of Sylhet Metropolitan Police for one and a half hours in Sylhet’s Upashahar on Saturday.
BNP’s Sylhet district unit General Secretary Ali Ahmed said they started the demonstration around 2:30pm as police kept denying that they arrested the Chhatra Dal leaders.
“We withdrew our demonstration around 4pm after police made the confirmation,” he said.
Police arrested the three Chhatra Dal leaders--Sumon Ahmed, Rasel Ahmed and Liakat--from Jhalopara in connection with a case filed with the Osmani Nagar police station.
Earlier on July 12, the BNP mayoral candidate staged a sit-in in front of Bandar Bazar police outpost as police detained a BNP activist hanging posters.
