Road Transport and Bridges Minister, and also Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said that the Election Commission (EC) has successfully organized a free, fair, and inclusive election in Gazipur.
Quader made the comment at a press conference held at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhaka on Wednesday.
“Gazipur City Corporation election was free and fair, but the BNP rejected the poll results because they lost. They (BNP) claimed the vote was rigged after their candidate lost. If the BNP had won, they would have called the election fair,” Quader said at the press conference.
He continued: “By rejecting the results of Gazipur City Corporation election, the BNP disrespected the people of Gazipur, who had voted in a festive mood to exercise their democratic rights.
“The BNP, in a repetition of their behavior in past polls, had tried to create anarchy during the Gazipur election by posing as Awami League activists. They are now lying to the people after media unraveled their plan.”
The Awami League leader also thanked the Election Commission, local administration, and law enforcement agencies for organizing a free, free, and participatory election in Gazipur.
