Comilla City election, Sunamganj by-polls on Mar 30

The election to the Comilla City Corporation and by-polls to the Sunamganj 2 constituency will be held on March 30. The Election Commission announced the schedule on Monday. It is the first election schedule announced by the KM Nurul Huda-led EC after he took office last week. Aspirants will have to file nominations within March 2, according to the schedule. Nominations for the Sunamganj by-polls will be scrutinised on March 5, while those for the Comilla City Corporation election will be screened on March 6. March 13 is the last day to withdraw nominations. Comilla City Corporation was scheduled to go to polls on December 20 last year but legal complexities over a boundary demarcation delayed it. The former EC did not announce a schedule due to a shortage of time. Comilla's Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam was appointed as the city corporation's administrator. The Sunamganj 2 constituency fell vacant after veteran politician Suranjit Sengupta's death on February 5.
