Information and Communication Technology Affairs Adviser to the prime minister, Sajeeb Wazed Joy has slated BNP for “spreading lies” over the just concluded Khulna city polls.

In a post on his Facebook page on Wednesday, he congratulated Khulna city’s mayor-elect Talukder Abdul Khaleque for his landslide victory in the election that was held on Tuesday amid sporadic irregularities and vandalism.

"BNP is a thoroughly dishonest party. Every day they hold press briefings to spout one lie after another, "Joy said.

"They [BNP] are raising allegations that the polls were rigged, even though their candidate got over half of the vote our Awami League candidate secured. There were problems in only three of 289 polling centres. The Election Commission stopped collecting votes in those centres. BNP activists vandalized the centres, but they are now raising allegations of irregularities.”

Joy, son of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, further alleged that BNP leaders were also spreading lies about the Bangabandhu-1 satellite.

“First, they tried to say that our information and data will be leaked to foreigners through this satellite. This is such a stupid allegation that only an uneducated and ignorant person can raise. "Second, they are raising questions about ownership of the satellite. This is fully owned by Bangladesh Communications Satellite Company, a 100% state-owned company just like Teletalk and Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Ltd.”
