The Election Commission and the Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) has imposed a number of restrictions ahead of the Khulna City Corporation election.
Restrictions against the press have also been issued.
The KMP had asked all those who are not residents of the Khulna City Corporation to leave the city after Saturday midnight.
Nine vehicles have been banned in the city from Monday midnight to Tuesday midnight. They are – autorickshaws, taxi cabs, microbus, SUVs, pickup trucks, buses, trucks, and tempos. The vehicle ban is in accordance with the Election Commission’s directives.
Furthermore, there is a ban on motorcycles between Sunday midnight and 6am Wednesday.
For the members of the press, the directives include not entering the polling stations without the presiding officer’s permission, photographing and recording videos only when authorized. The media has been instructed not to interfere with the election officers or tamper with any of the equipment.
Furthermore, journalists cannot enter the polling booths or photograph, or record videos of it. The people inside the polling stations cannot be interviewed. There is a restriction on broadcasting from inside the polling station. Only one journalist will be allowed at a time inside any room.
