Attorney General Mahbubey Alam has said he hopes for a nomination from Awami League for the Munshiganj 2 constituency in the upcoming general elections.
He made the statement during a discussion session with the entrepreneurs of Narayanganj’s Deobhog cloth market.
The attorney general said: “I am neither a minister nor an MP, but as a lawyer, I pledge my support to you. I want your support and prayers to be able to continue serving you. I will ask Awami League for a nomination in the upcoming election. I hope you will all stand by me.”
The current MP of the Munshiganj 2 constituency is Sagufta Yasmin Emily, who has won the seat in both 2009 and 2014. In 1996, she held a seat as a reserved woman MP.
Describing the various improvements that have come about during the Awami League rule, Mahbubey said: “Our most important responsibility is to save the country, protect the environment, and to improve roads and infrastructure. The current government is doing these things admirably. We are seeing a truly incredible amount of progress and development. In order to keep this up, we have to keep Sheikh Hasina in power.”
Addressing the entrepreneurs of the cloth market, he said: “Many people are occupying important railway land by misusing loopholes in the law. I do not want to name any names, but you all should create an association and apply for a lease on the land. If the land is not used for the railway, you can have the lease on the land. I will personally lobby to the prime minister on your behalf.”This article was first published on banglatribune.com
