Three BNP leaders visit Khaleda in jail

Update : 28 Apr 2018, 06:36 PM
Three senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, went to old Dhaka Central Jail at Nazimuddin Road in Old Dhaka to meet with party chief Khaleda Zia on Saturday. Fakhrul, along with BNP Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Nazrul Islam Khan, arrived at the jail gate around 3:30pm. The jail authorities took them inside after around 20 minutes. Earlier in the day, three personal physicians of the BNP chief raised concerns that she could lose mobility and her eyesight if she was not given proper treatment at a specialized hospital immediately. Fakhrul said their “critically ill” chairperson cannot be taken to a specialized hospital for better treatment as a file in this regard has yet to be processed at the Prime Minister's Office. The BNP second-in-command last met with Khaleda on April 6. The BNP chief was taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University the following day for some medical tests. Previously, the three leaders sought permission to visit Khaleda on April 19, but to no avail. On February 8, a trial court sentenced the former prime minister to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
