With the Khulna City Corporation election just over two weeks away, mayoral hopefuls and candidates for councillor posts have launched their campaigns full strength.
In the sweltering heat of summer, they are running from one locality to another to woo voters, no matter what the temperature.
They are exchanging greetings with voters with smiles brighter than usual on their faces, and seeking their blessings to come out winners in the polls slated for May 15.
The candidates are also electioneering using microphones and distributing leaflets with pledges they will fulfill if elected.
BNP-blessed mayoral aspirant, Nazrul Islam Monju, was conducting a massive campaign in ward nos. 10 and 7 from 9am to 12pm.

He started campaigning from Khalishpur Super Market and then visited different areas such as Chitrali Market, Bangabasi School intersection, BIDC road, Bhatiapara, Raypara, Rajdhani Mor, and BL College by-lane.
His rival from the ruling Awami League, Talukdar Abdul Khalek, carried out electioneering in ward no. 16 in the morning.
Starting his campaign from Hamid Nagar around 8:30am, Khalek visited different spots in the city and exchanged views with locals.
He visited Bayra Bazar, Rayer Mahal, Puja Khola, Islamia College Road, Sonadanga residential area, C&B Colony, and Karimnagar, among other places in ward nos. 16 and 17.

SM Kamal Hossain, a central executive committee member of Awami League, told the Dhaka Tribune that he too conducted mass campaigns in favour of Khalek in Daulatpur, Khalishpur, Sonadanga, and Sadar police station areas.
Safiqur Rahman of the Ershad-led Jatiya Party, Maulana Muzammel Haque of Islami Andolon Bangladesh, and Mizanur Rahman Babu, who is backed by an alliance of five leftist parties, are also campaigning in the city.
Candidates vying for councillor posts are not lagging behind in the race either.
Some 148 candidates are competing for a total of 31 councillor posts, and 39 female candidates for 10 councillor seats reserved for women.
