Awami League nominated mayoral candidate, Talukdar Abdul Khalek, for Khulna City Corporation polls, has declared his 31-point manifesto.
He rolled out the election manifesto at a press conference at the Humayun Kabir auditorium at the Khulna Press Club on Wednesday.
The mayoral candidate attached priorities to solving waterlogging and providing civic amenities to city dwellers.
Replying to a query Khalek said if elected as mayor he would introduce city government system so that the city corporation can work in coordination with Wasa and other agencies working for the development of the city.
Other pledges of the election manifesto include reducing traffic gridlock, developing water and sewerage systems, improving services without raising holding tax, reclaiming grabbed canals, repairing of roads, improving health services, generating employment, improving the traffic system, working for establishing rights of women, improving education system, providing assistance for old people and people with disabilities, curbing drug abuse, constructing and renovating parks, expanding Khulna metropolitan and developing Khalishpur and Rupsa industrial zones.
Khalek said during his first stint as mayor in 2008 the city corporation received an allocation of over Tk1,000 crore and it spent about Tk275 crore in various sectors.
“We planned to finish all development works by 2016 but failed to do so. If elected I will accomplish all incomplete projects and provide the city dwellers with better services,” he said.
Awami League Khulna district unit President and election management committee Chief Coordinator Sheikh Harunur Rashid, Coordinator and central Awami League leader SM Kamal Hossain and other local leaders of the party were present at the press conference.
The mayoral candidate officially started his campaign on Tuesday after receiving the boat symbol to contest the polls slated for May 15.
