Update : 23 Apr 2018, 01:28 AM
Khulna City Corporation (KCC) Awami League (AL) and BNP mayoral candidates have been asked to explain their reported violation of electoral code of conducts, set by the Election Commission. Separate show-cause letters were sent to both candidates on Sunday after they had accused each other of violating the code of conduct, confirmed Returning Officer and Regional Election Official Md Younus Ali. “AL candidate Talukdar Abdul Khalek and BNP’s Nazrul Islam Manju accused each other of violating EC’s code of conduct and submitted complaint letters to the EC office on Saturday,” he said. “As a result both candidates have been asked to explain themselves in written form by 4pm Monday,” Younus said. Both candidates have accused each other of violating Section 5 of the 2016 EC’s electoral code of conduct. According to Section 5 of the code of conduct, candidates or their parties, any individual or organization on their behalf cannot begin campaigning before the electoral symbols are allotted.
