The BNP and its associate organizations have announced a series of demonstrations throughout Bangladesh, including in Dhaka, demanding unconditional release of the party’s Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from incarceration.
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the announcement at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan office on Sunday.
Dhaka Metropolitan North and South units of the BNP will organize protest demonstrations on April 22 and 23 respectively.
On April 25, BNP will organize human chain demonstrations in districts and metropolitans across the country, including in Dhaka.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP will organize protest demonstrations throughout the country on April 26.
On April 27, special prayers will be offered in mosques nationwide seeking release of Khaleda Zia from jail and for improvement of her health condition.
Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Jatiyatabadi Shechchasebak Dal will organize countrywide protest demonstrations on April 28 and 29 respectively.
On May 1, Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal plans to organize a workers’ rally at the Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital to mark International Workers' Day.
On February 8, Dhaka’s Fifth Special Judge’s Court convicted Khaleda and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case. She was then sent to the old central jail at Nazimuddin Road in the city.
