Rizvi: Khaleda’s treatment at BSMMU a mockery

Update : 08 Apr 2018, 03:20 PM
The government sent BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) only to mock her by not providing treatment through ‘real’ medical tests, said the party’s Senior Joint General Secretary Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed. His made the comment at a press briefing held at the party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in Dhaka on Sunday. Khaleda’s personal physicians, Rizvi said, too, could not treat her though the three-time former prime minister was affected with ‘several ailments due to her incarceration in a filthy and littered prison cell’. According to him, police arrested several Chhatra Dal and Juba Dal leaders, including some from the BNP affiliated wings’ central committees, from the BSMMU premises, who went there to have a glimpse of Khaleda. The BNP chief came out of Old Dhaka Central Jail for the first time in two months on Saturday morning and underwent some medical tests at BSMMU for her reported illness. She was later taken back to the jail around 1:45pm. However, Rizvi later in the day in a media briefing claimed that the government staged a drama by “forcibly” sending Khaleda to BSMMU on the pretext of a health check-up. “Our leader was not given any treatment. She was only subjected to harassment. The government staged a drama only to cause her pain, both mentally and physically,” he told reporters at the party’s Nayapaltan office. Meanwhile, BSMMU Director Brig Gen Abdullah-Al-Harun said Khaleda seemed to be in good health but her condition would be better assessed upon receipt of her medical reports.
