Mahbubul Alam Hanif, joint general secretary of AL, during an event in Kushtia said all speculations against the EC by BNP is rooted in their lack of confidence in their party.
Mahbubul said: “BNP made a grave mistake by not participating in the 10th national election. But they can not form movements against the EC because of this reason. We believe that those appointed at the newly formed EC will be able to carry their responsibility with honesty and integrity. It is completely unfair to accuse them of political biases even before they have begun their functions.”
The Minister of Law and Justice Anisul Huq, while speaking at a separate event in Brahmanbaria, said: “The new EC will not resign and this EC will conduct the next national election. The EC members were not appointed from AL, but were appointed in accordance to the constitution and laws for selecting the EC members.
“Even the president took initiatives to speak to all the political parties before forming the search committee, who suggested ten names from where members were selected to form the new EC”, he added to explain the fair selection of EC members.
On the other hand, Obaidul Quader, the general secretary of AL, at a Dhaka event said: “BNP's desperation as a party can put them in dangerous position in politics again.”
In response to the comments made by BNP leaders against the new Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda, Obaidul said: “Unfortunately, BNP don't know what they are saying and the political arena is now full of incompetent people. Politicians must educate themselves to prove their right to be here.
“Politics is for serving people; not to make them suffer. Therefore, AL will not organise any rally or mass meetings, but celebrate the three nationally important days in smaller scales, so as to not cause any suffering to the public.”
