Sheikh Hasina launches election campaign in Sylhet on Tuesday

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will launch her ruling Awami League’s campaign for the upcoming parliamentary election in Sylhet on Tuesday. Central, district and metropolitan Awami League leaders were busy making last-minute preparations on Monday to welcome the party president to the city. "We are ready to welcome the prime minister, whose visit is very important for the upcoming national and city corporation elections,”  Sylhet District Awami League General Secretary Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said. PM Hasina will begin her tour on Tuesday by visiting the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal, Hazrat Shah Poran and Sylhet's first muslim, Gazi Burhan Uddin. Later that afternoon, the premier will address an election rally at the Alia Madrasa grounds, where she is expected to highlight various development activities of the Awami League government in Sylhet. The prime minister's Special Security Force has visited these places to complete security sweeps over the last few days. Awami League activists are also coming from different districts in Sylhet division to attend the public meeting. Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that just as in previous years, the Awami League president will appeal directly to the people of Sylhet for their vote in the upcoming elections, which she wants held before the end of the year. Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League President and Central Committee member Badaruddin Ahmed Kamran appealed for party unit ahead of the prime minister’s visit.
